Couldn't have had more friendly people. I only knew one person down there.

Still I got entered 4 times(3 man teams) in each of two ropings.
Started at 10 am ended at 7 pm. 13 teams in each roping.

Nice facility. two indoor arenas, stalls,
Bunkhouse.

I was lucky enough, our team was leading in first go. Didn't win anything.
Most of the people had just got back from Californios. Their first time
down there. So they were aaaall fired up. That led to a lot of tries on more difficult shots. I got lucky on a couple del vientos and scoop loops, my favorite is offside hip shot. pretty much a sure thing for me. I hadn't ranch roped since October, no practice or warm-up.
Horse worked really well. So I represented well.

Fair mix of skills in the arena, first timers, some with lots of practice.
Lots of good gear, most well made, home made. J. l. Willemsma, Jeremiah Johnson....saddles.

out of time.

Travel Safe.

Silverton OR, about 30 mi. SE of Portland.
500 miles round trip from my house.

Some flat hats from over east.

Not like team roping. You know, show up, don't know anyone, no one will rope with you.
These guys were quiet, checking out your gear and horse. waiting to see what you were about. Then started joking etc.
Real good communication during run. Judge was not a roper, so had to call your shots, number of coils...turn and face. No pressure. Winners got headstall conchos. Money went to benefit. Very low key.
Even at end of day, cattle worn down, horses tired, it still didn't get grouchy.

I'll go back when I build up some more pin money.

Nothing up here for ranch roping.

May go to Amarillo in the fall to watch the Ranch Finals.???

Amarillo....hmmmmmmmmmm. Road trip. Just goes to show ya, Imullen,
good horsemanship, with good folks, and good horses, and good gear, and good cattle, really is a universal language..you know it when you see it, and are a part of it, from the start. So glad you felt at home there..
