Texas Cooperative Extension, Collin County and the Collin County Extension Horse Committee will be sponsoring an “Equine Freeze Branding Clinic” on Saturday, May 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Myers Park and Event Center in conjunction with the May 19 4-H Horse Show in McKinney, TX. Collin County is northeast of Dallas, TX.
Troy McKinney, Field Inspector for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, will be conducting the freeze branding. You may bring your horses to have them permanently identified by freeze branding at a cost of $35 per head. Troy will have the standard branding irons available to do almost any brand design. In order for you to have your horse freeze branded you must first register your brand at the County Clerk’s Office in the respective county that you live in. The cost to do this is $10 and it will be good by 10 years.
With the rising incidences of horse theft, this is an excellent opportunity to have your horse identified. To register or if you have any questions about the freeze branding clinic or other horse events, please call the Extension office at 972-548-4233.
