With the ton of wet rainy snow and crazy wind this weekend, the barn I board at collapsed early Sunday morning. Sam, Titania's horse Bandit and all the others were okay, miraculously. The barn is--was--an old polo barn, with a huge indoor in the center and a row of stalls on either side. The indoor roof is what collapsed, but the stalls remained untouched. The horses were obviously terrified but I am so so grateful that they're all otherwise okay. Yesterday we spent all day relocating 20 horses and we were even able to get all our tack and most of the equipment out of the barn. Sam went with Bandit and another horse out to Titania's place--thank you again so much Titania for taking him in. He was such a good boy to walk down the road and get on a strange trailer without a qualm. The horse community around here was wonderful and the barn owners got calls from all over the place offering stalls and trailers and help.

My heart is breaking for the barn owners, who did so much work turning the place from a dirty cattle farm to a really nice training and boarding facility. I hope they get insurance money enough to cover most of it, but it's still a total loss, and I feel so horrible for them. I'll post a picture later if I have time--I can't get at my pictures while I'm at work, but I can't even describe how bad it looks. The roof collapse blew out the front wall and it's just wreckage everywhere. Please send the BOs thoughts and prayers if you can...

I'm so sorry to hear that. I can't imagine what it must have been like for the horses in there. thank God they weren't hurt. Yeah, I sure hope they had insurance.

Glad to hear the horses are ok. Hope the barn owners get to rebuild. The important thing; no loss of life.

I forgot to post it here!!!!!! Sorry guys. Yeah, I was devastated when I heard...I still can't believe it. I really hope the insurance companies don't drag their feet and are a$$es about it.

Sararh - We are really thankful that we were able to help. and that no one was hurt. i think the scariest thing was the arena dust covering all the horses. UGH! We are so lucky that nothing happened to them. And i think Bandit and Sam were two of the few horses that walked right on with their owners, like you said down the drive, in the street, past two huge construction trucks, they did awesome. Through all of this we have them and we are lucky.

BTW your horse still squeals like a little girl ;)
(He got to rub noses with my big chestnut gelding last night)
