The Trinity Trail Preservation Association (TTPA) will host its 3rd Annual Poker Ride/Walk along Trinity Trail at the Brockdale Park trailhead in Lucas, TX on Saturday, April 14th. You do not need a horse to participate. Hikers are welcome. Just ante up $10 per rider or hiker to be eligible to win prizes. This is not a speed event. Registration will be from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Beginning with a staggered Obstacle Course start at 10:30 AM, each participant must collect five sealed envelopes from stations along the trail which contain official poker ride cards and head back to the judge’s desk at which time the envelopes will be opened. Completion requires a walk or ride of about 5 miles. At the judge’s desk, participants will have the opportunity to trade cards for a fee to try to get a better “poker hand”. The rider/hiker with the winning hand will receive 25% of the take and prizes for second and third place will also be awarded at 2:00 PM.
Lunch will be available for a $4 donation at 12:30 PM. To ensure there will be enough food and poker cards for you, please R.S.V.P. to Sharon Kouba at the_ranch@dfwair.com or 972-727-4496. Further information abut TTPA can be obtained from their website at www.trinitytrailriders.org.

Lucas is northeast of Dallas, TX. From Dallas, go north on US 75 to the Bethany Drive exit in Allen and go east. Take Bethany Drive through Allen into Lucas (about 5 miles). Counting the light at the expressway exit, you will go through seven lights, and then a stop sign and then another stop sign at Murphy Road (FM2551). Continue straight and proceed to the stop light near Lucas City Hall (on the left). Bethany Road changes its name to East Lucas Road at this point and intersects with FM 1378. Go straight. In about ½ mile, when the road makes a sharp curve, you will see a stop light and the Lucas Food Mart and gas station on your left. Turn left here on FM 3286 and go less than a mile to Brockdale Park Road. It turns off to the right. There is a brown park sign marking the turn. If you get to the bridge over Lake Lavon you have gone too far. Follow Brockdale Park Road around to the trailhead. You will drive through three 90-degree turns. The trailhead is at the 3rd 90-degree turn on the right and is bordered by white pipe fence. If you get to the boat ramp you have gone too far.

In addition, riders and hikers from all over the Metroplex come to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the trail. The trail runs from Brockdale Park in Lucas through Collin Park in St. Paul to East Fork Park in Wylie. The TTPA members are currently working with the Lake Lavon Army Corps of Engineers and Texas Parks & Wildlife to extend the trail northward to Fairview. They are also working with Collin County Parks and Open Space and the Lake Lavon office of the Army Corps of Engineers to build an equestrian campground at East Fork Park in Wylie, Texas. Officially organized in 1997, all funding has been from 50% matching grants awarded by Texas Parks & Wildlife and Collin County Parks and Open Space, cash donations from members, thousands of volunteer hours and the help and support of the Corps of Engineers, and the Cities of Lucas and Wylie.
