Matlock Rose 1924-2008

NCHA Hall of Fame member Matlock Rose, who rode World Champions Stardust Desire, Peppy San, Peppy's Desire and Peponita (twice), passed away at his home in Van, Texas Saturday night

I hope that when the Angels
came, they had on their best
pair 'o spurs..
as they escort the
legend, to the Gates
they say
the Gates that's
made from Pearls.

Matlock Rose.
Above the rest.
That look was in
his eyes.
By God, he'd get it done.
It was do or it was die...

My gosh, he rode
the good ones.

The Legend was the Man.

We all know
great horses, determine
where you stand.

I have to vote the great ones
and so many come to mind..
if you lined em out today, placed
the horse next to the man..
a tighter pair their never was,
Matlock and Peppy San.
Standing side by side, both
legends in their time.

I hope ol Pep was waiting,
and nickered, on that fateful date
When God called Matlock home.
I hope Pep was there to wait.
Yes, and if ol Matlock worried,
as his time was drawing near,
hope that little red horse was there
to calm his fears.
I hope that God had looped the
reins, on those very Pearly Gates,

And when Peppy seen ol' Matlock,
he no longer had to wait.

I can see Matlock, in
my own minds eye.
With Pep a waitin on him, now
Ol partners...just a waitin on
the cows.

That craggy smile lights up
God's sky, and you will know of course.
Look to the West, tonight my friends.
The Man is with
the Horse.
