Does anybody have a great rolling saddle rack for a western saddle?

OK, two questions - thought of another:

Has anyone flown with a western saddle, and if so, what sort of bag did you put it in?

There are so many carrying things for english saddles and not so many for western.... Not a big surprise, though. English saddles aren't bulky and don't weigh 40 lbs., LOL.

I have a custom made wooden saddle rack. I love it. I haven't traveled with my saddle yet in an airplane, but I do go from barn to barn and go to clinics and such so I got this saddle bag: http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?PGGUID=30e07397-7b6a-11d5-a192-00b0d0204ae5

I love BMB stuff. I get their blankets, their halters and their tack carriers. All of it is super well-made and last forever. Not to mention for a color fanatic like me I could get my bag in teal with my name in yellow stitching. Its big enough to fit my ginormous Wade. And it has excellent cushioning.

This is an off the wall idea, but Uhaul, the rental guys, have a round box...similar to a barrel... I understand it, it is seals up, on both ends, and a western saddle fits perfect inside for shipping...you fold the fenders under themselves, and the stirrups snug up to where the sheepskin is..THEN you bungie it to a dolly, or a little wheel-ie cart. I am trying to think of who told me about this, and I think it was Amy LeSatz....or maybe it was M. If you have to fly with your saddle, it works..so give uhaul a call...

Thanks, Exy - that looks really nice, but probably wouldn't do for flying. Do you have any photos of your custom saddle rack? I have a cool "saddle rack" at home but it's too nice to take out to the barn. It was not intended to be a saddle rack but when I got my western saddle I realized it was perfect. ;) It was a Christmas present to my sister and me back in ... oh, about 1966. At the time we could fit three kids on it at once. It will still hold one adult - when my saddle arrived all brand new I tacked it up and had my first "ride". Here's a link to a pic (hope this works):

Well, that's a pretty nifty idea, red. I certainly would never have thought of that ... but it sure sounds like it would work great! Thanks!

On Contraire I think it's perfect for flying. I fly A LOT. Just last year I went to France, South Africa, Dominican Republic and Kenya. The fenders stay in place, Its got a ton of cushioning. I love my saddle and I wouldn't hesitate flying with it in that saddle bag. It really is VERY plush and secure. There's really no way anything could knock it up at all.

Oh - your other message said that you hadn't travelled with it in an airplane yet. ??

I couldn't tell from the photo how sturdy it would be. So you actually have flown with it? Does it go as checked baggage?

i've always used a hockey bag that can be purchased at any big box sporting goods store...they are very large and will hold a large saddle plus chinks plus spurs plus etc....they are usually inexpensive [$35] compared to most large bags...good luck

I haven't flown WITH it yet. But I do fly A LOT. I think 1/3 of my life is spent in an airplane. I am quite versed with baggage and airlines. This would go as checked baggage and it certainly would be fine down there in that bag. In fact I was looking to see if the company made a duffle bag for people so I could use it as baggage!

Oh and it also has three different straps. It has a shoulder strap so you can carry it over your shoulder and then two straps at either end so you can carry it. Sturdy straps. never broke. It's a good inch and a half to two inches of padding
