Rereading "Conquest of Mexico"-Bernal Diaz
First hand account of participant of Cortez' two
attempts to conquer Mexico. Great account of using horses
as not only instruments of war, but in statescraft also.

Horse-wise I am currently reading True Horsemanship Through Feel. I have started it several times in the past and could never get into it. I just don't think I was "ready" for it and "didn't get it." And last night I looked down and noticed I was on page 100. It felt wonderful to know I was understanding things and that I've gotten that far. I am really starting to enjoy it now.

I'm also reading Centered Riding 1, Balance & Movement.

I just finished reading "Travelers Prayer" which is a decent book with good life lessons. I'm also reading Thirteen Moons. And Sylvia Plath's private Journals

Can you tell I can't keep focused on one thing?

hmmmm...
I have a huge stack of almost finished (non horse) books on my nightstand...
horsewise, I have been reading, Horsekeeping on a Small Acreage.

Excess... Centered Riding is a classic! I always keep it handy!!!!!
and there is another book if you enjoy that one, I have it on my book shelf, "The Natural Rider" by Mary Wanless, if you like Sally Swift, you will like this one as well...

Thanks! I am really enjoying it. I love how Sally Swift has these visuals...it really helps. I like reading her in conjunction with True Horsemanship. I have heard of Mary Wanless. I'll have to pick that book up. I'm pretty sure I don't have it. I'm really getting an excellent horse library collection.

alois podhajsky my horses my teachers, xenophon persian invasion ''next''. funny,,, when you read the classics, your horses seem to benefit. they just somehow appreciate your attempts at broadening your own education so as to fix it where you can gain on where your horses really might be operating at that time. don't worry , don't fret, we will ''never'' catch up to where your horse is operating. but it is certainly funner for your horse as you gain on him. in-experince is a wonderful thing.

If we aren't confining ourselves to horse books, I'll add that I am now reading Lee Child's latest, Bad Luck and Trouble. His main character, Jack Reacher, is my all-time favorite fictional character. Has nothing to do with horses, though.

Been having a touch of insomnia lately and it gave me a chance to re-read Spike Van Cleve's Day Late and a Dollar Short and 40 Years Gatherings. I keep True Horsmanship through Feel next to the bed, too.

"alois podhajsky my horses my teachers"

Do you think that when Podhajskys horse fell in the Danube, that it could have had a brace? (tongue in cheek)

I`d like to get other peoples view on that chapter and see what they think, especially those who have worked with Ray or Buck or Tom.

I read that book through different eyes than I used to.

Good book though.

I'm in France on business for a few weeks and don't have any of my old favorite standbys with me. However I did pick up a few horse magazines at the local Super U newsstand and am looking forward to perusing them. We'll see how good my French is ... I may just be looking at pictures, LOL. One of them does have English versions of every article so I'll read the French first and then read the English to see how I did. I'm not anticipating anything too insightful from any of these magazines, but I suppose you never know.... There might be an unexpected gem or two buried in there somewhere.

If you haven't yet, Hamilton Sides' _Blood and Thunder_ is a must. He's an amazing writer and managed to create a history of the settling/conquest of the west that is a total page-turner.

Red,

I think they are coming soon :) They are calling for 90 for us by Friday. I didn't mind 90 at all in Arizona, but they didn't have 68% or higher humidity to go with it.... sigh...

I'm going to have to reset my alarm and start riding at 6:30am to avoid the heat/humidity. I missed the green, how could I have forgotten how much I didn't miss the humity????

I have a 3 day clinic with Brent Graef the first weekend in July and I need to re-read my notes and start practicing.
