View Full Version : Horses in Washington State
This is not an introductory message, but in about six months I will be a resident of Olympia/Lacey, Washington. I intend on taking my horse out there after about six months of my living there.
So, I'm putting out feelers for like-minded horse lovers that may live in this area. I am trying to plan ahead for boarding possibilities and trying to make the transition for my horse and I as smooth as possible.
If anyone out there knows of a good place to stable a horse and how much that might run me, fantastic. Even better would be knowing I will have a potential horse community out there to connect with.

Hi Ash, I'm in Washington, but about 2 hours north of Olympia so I'm not much help. But hopefully you will enjoy it here, lot's of horse stuff going on and if you like riding in the mountains lots of wonderful scenery. Awhile back there was a gal posting on here from I think it was Enumclaw, that's a little closer. But I can't remember her name. Anyway welcome to Washington, it's a great place to live.

I live in Shelton, 12 miles west of W. Olympia. I use to board at a place called Rushing Wind located in Olympia just off 113th street. If you Google it you will get the exact address and phone number. They don't have their own web page. They are well managed and my two horses were happy there. They have a nice indoor arena, very large outdoor arena, some trail access and they feed their own hay. Horses are out all summer in large paddocks. Management has changed and I'm unsure what they do now during the winter as far as turn out. When I was there horses came in for the winter and were turned out on the nicer days.
Another place I'm familiar with is Flying M Stables, they are up the street from Rushing Wind.
Their web page, http://www.flyingmstables.com This is a very active facility with horse shows, cow events and clinics. They have a very large indoor arena, a track and often have a waiting list.
Facilities with indoor arenas fill up quickly in the fall. In the spring, some people take their horses home for the summer and that is the best time to find a place to board your horse. The good facilities fill up and/or have waiting lists.
Mud is a major problem, especially in paddocks, in the winter. Some facilities have "mudless" paddocks but most don't.
Welcome to WA, its a great place to own/ride horses.
Thought I'd update this!
Well, ya'll, I'm almost officially an Olympian. I've been here for nearly 6 months! LOL And I'm already working at a horse barn. Granted, they do not exactly practice horsemanship the way I would but I do my best at working out what I can.
aaequestrian -- Shelton's pretty darn close! I'm getting my mare out here in June. I'm going to board her at Chastain Mist, where I work. I get really cheap boarding if I clean stalls once a week. So I'm gonna do it.
Maybe we can meet up! That would be loverly. In the mean time, it's nice to know that at least two people from this board are within driving distance of me.

I'll throw in another update here.
I have had Miss Brenna out here now for more than two months. We're thoroughly enjoying one another's company. I have her out in Rainier at a very beautiful facility.
I was wondering if anyone on this forum knows of any trainers in the Olympia/Tacoma area that work using a foundation horsemanship approach. I would love to get a couple lessons perhaps, or just build up some good horsemanship friendships.
